Start with the bed size and the maker’s own printer list, then choose the surface. For 235 x 235 mm beds, the Wham Bam textured PEI plate has the longest confirmed fit list, the BIQU PEI plate is the one here that includes a magnetic base, and Creality’s smooth PEI plate is the in-house option for Creality’s newer 235 mm printers. Wham Bam’s PEX plate covers 220 x 220 mm beds, and its 320 x 310 mm textured PEI plate covers large printers such as the CR-10S Pro.

A spring steel plate makes part removal easier: lift it off the printer after the print cools and flex it. It does not fix an incorrect Z offset, loose bed hardware or a dirty nozzle, and it needs a magnetic base (or, for Wham Bam plates, bed clips) unless the maker includes one.

Start With Plate Size, Then Choose the Surface

Plate size is the first filter. A 220 x 220 mm plate is not interchangeable with a 235 x 235 mm plate, and neither belongs on a 320 x 310 mm bed. Even plates with the same size can differ in tabs, alignment notches or holes, and magnet layout. That is why Wham Bam splits its lists into confirmed “Printer Fits” and unconfirmed “May Fit” printers.

Then choose the surface:

  • Textured PEI leaves a textured finish on the bottom of the part. Wham Bam’s PEI plates are textured on both sides.
  • Smooth PEI gives a flatter bottom face.
  • PEX is Wham Bam’s alternative surface. It needs its own prep and temperature routine (see pick 4).

Every plate swap changes the nozzle-to-surface distance. Wham Bam’s guidance is to run automatic bed leveling after installing a plate and set the gap so the first layer is well squished. With manual leveling, follow the same process. Print a small first-layer test before a long job.

1. Wham Bam Textured PEI, 235 x 235 w/ Alignment Notches: Best Fit Coverage for 235 mm Beds

Wham Bam’s confirmed fit list for this plate runs to 35 printers. It includes the Creality Ender 3, Ender 3 Pro, Ender 3 V2, Ender 3 S1, Ender 3 V3 SE and KE, Ender 5, K1 and K1C, the Elegoo Neptune 2, 3, 3 Pro, 4 and 4 Pro, the Flashforge Adventurer 5M, the BIQU B1 and the Sovol SV06. Wham Bam lists a few more, including the Anycubic Kobra, as “may fit.” This is the version with alignment notches. Wham Bam has marked the older version without notches as discontinued.

The plate is 0.4 mm high-chromium spring steel, powder painted with ULTEM PEI on both sides (0.12 mm per side). Wham Bam says it suits PLA, TPU, PETG and ABS, and suggests glue stick or Magigoo for extra adhesion with nylon.

The magnetic base is not included. Wham Bam says you should already have a magnet or clips installed on your printer.

Choose it for a 235 mm printer on Wham Bam’s list that already has a magnetic bed, when a textured underside is fine. Skip it if you need a smooth bottom finish or don’t have a magnetic base yet.

2. BIQU PEI Magnetic Spring Steel Build Plate: Includes the Magnetic Base

BIQU’s plate is spring steel with a PEI surface coating. BIQU says it combines a durable PEI surface, a flexible spring steel sheet and a strong magnetic base, so this is the pick here for a printer that doesn’t already have a magnetic bed.

It comes in two sizes. The 235 x 235 x 0.4 mm version lists the Ender 3, Ender 3 V2, Ender 3 Pro, Ender 3S, CR20, Ender 5 and Creality K1 (“etc.”). The 310 x 310 x 0.4 mm version lists the CR10 and CR10S Pro (“etc.”). BIQU’s store showed the 235 mm version as out of stock on October 5, 2026, while the 310 mm version was in stock.

BIQU’s list is shorter and less specific than Wham Bam’s, so confirm that your bed is 235 x 235 mm before ordering.

3. Creality Smooth PEI Build Plate 235*235mm: For Creality’s Newer 235 mm Printers

Creality’s own 235 mm plate pairs a smooth PEI surface with a spring steel plate. Creality lists it for the Ender-3 S1, Ender-3 S1 Pro, Ender-5 S1, K1, Ender-3 V3 SE, Ender-3 V3 KE, CR-10 SE and Ender-3 V3.

The original Ender 3, Ender 3 Pro and Ender 3 V2 are not on Creality’s list for this plate. Owners of those printers should use the BIQU or Wham Bam lists instead. Creality’s listing doesn’t give the plate’s thickness or say whether a magnetic base is included.

Choose it for a listed Creality printer when you want a smooth bottom face rather than texture.

4. Wham Bam Flexi Plate with PEX, 220 x 220: For 220 mm Beds

This is a square-cornered 220 x 220 mm plate with Wham Bam’s PEX surface (0.4 mm steel plus 0.35 mm PEX). Confirmed fits are the Anet A8, Kingroon KLP1, MonoPrice Ultimate and Ultimate V2, Robo R2, Tronxy P802M and X2, UltiMaker 1 and Wanhao Duplicator 6. The Anycubic i3 Mega, Mega Pro and Mega S are “may fit.”

PEX needs a different routine from PEI. Wham Bam says to scuff a new PEX surface with 000 steel wool or a red composite abrasive pad until it has an even satin matte finish, then clean it with isopropyl alcohol over 90% and a fresh paper towel. It also suggests running the first three layers toward the lower end of the filament’s hotend range to avoid damaging the PEX. A magnetic base or bed clips must already be on the printer.

Choose it for a listed 220 mm printer when you want to try PEX. Skip it if you want to stay with a PEI routine.

5. Wham Bam Textured PEI, 320 x 310: For Large Beds

Wham Bam’s large textured PEI plate measures 320 mm in Y and 310 mm in X (the tab side). It uses the same build as pick 1: 0.4 mm spring steel with 0.12 mm ULTEM PEI on each side, no magnetic base included. Confirmed fits are the Anycubic Kobra Plus, Comgrow T300, Creality CR-10S Pro, CR-10S Pro V2 and V3, CR-X, Ender 3 Max and Ender 3 Max Neo, Formbot Troodon 300, goofoo Nova, and the Sovol SV06 Plus and SV07 Plus. For the two Sovol printers, Wham Bam says to remove the two rear alignment screws or mount the plate 5 mm over the front of the bed.

Large plates make first-layer setup more visible. A small offset error shows up across a wide panel or a full plate of parts, so run a first-layer test that covers most of the bed.

What to Consider Before Buying

  1. Find your printer on the maker’s list. Matching X and Y dimensions is only the start. Tabs, notches and magnet layout vary.
  2. Check for a magnetic base. Wham Bam’s plates need a magnet or clips already on the printer. BIQU’s listing describes a magnetic base as part of its plate.
  3. Pick the underside finish. Textured PEI leaves texture on the bottom of the part. Smooth PEI leaves a flatter face.
  4. Reset the first layer. Rerun leveling and set the Z offset again after any plate swap.
  5. Clean with the maker’s method. Wham Bam suggests isopropyl alcohol and a fresh paper towel after every print, and dish detergent or vinegar with water if the PEI loses grip. It warns that acetone damages the surface.

Remove the plate from the printer before flexing it, flex gradually, and reinstall it flat with no debris trapped under it.

Who Should Skip These Plates

Skip a spring steel plate when the printer has no magnetic base and you don’t want to add one. A loose or poorly supported sheet creates more problems than it solves.

A rigid glass bed may still suit someone who values a very smooth bottom finish more than flex removal. Removal is less convenient, because there is nothing to flex.

Easy cleanup and sheet swaps

For fast cleanup, the plate system matters more than the printer. A removable flexible plate lets you flex parts off and wipe the surface, and swapping plates between jobs is quicker than scrubbing one. Check replacement-plate availability, because proprietary sizes add ownership burden. Check access too: doors, lids or tight clearances slow every plate change. A dusty room pushes the value toward an enclosure, which stays cleaner but adds an access step.

Final Recommendations

For a 235 mm printer that already has a magnetic bed, start with the Wham Bam textured PEI plate with alignment notches if your printer is on its confirmed list. Choose the BIQU PEI plate if you also need the magnetic base, and check BIQU’s stock first. Choose Creality’s smooth PEI plate for a listed newer Creality printer when a smooth bottom matters. For 220 mm beds, the Wham Bam PEX plate is the option here. For large beds such as the CR-10S Pro, use the Wham Bam 320 x 310 mm plate.

FAQ

Does a spring steel build plate fit any printer with the same bed size?

No. Matching the X and Y dimensions is the starting point, but makers also check tabs, alignment notches or holes, and the magnet layout. Use the maker’s own printer list, and treat its “may fit” list as unconfirmed.

Do I need a magnetic base?

Yes, unless your printer already has one or, for Wham Bam plates, uses bed clips. Wham Bam says you should already have a magnet or clips installed before using its Flexi Plates, which ship without a base. BIQU’s listing describes its plate as combining a PEI surface, a spring steel sheet and a strong magnetic base.

Do I need to reset Z offset after installing a spring steel plate?

Yes. The steel and surface layer change the nozzle-to-bed distance. Wham Bam says to run automatic bed leveling after installing a plate and set the gap so the first layer is well squished, or follow the same process with manual leveling.

Should I choose textured or smooth PEI?

Choose textured PEI when a textured underside on the part is fine. Wham Bam says its double-sided texture leaves a pronounced finish on the bottom of the print. Choose smooth PEI, such as Creality’s smooth plate, when you want a flatter bottom surface.

How should I clean a PEI plate?

Wham Bam suggests wiping its textured PEI with isopropyl alcohol and a fresh paper towel after every print, and using dish detergent or vinegar with water if the PEI loses grip. It warns against acetone, which damages the surface.
